Digital marketers are continually developing and expanding their knowledge base in order to be more effective in their professions, but there is always still a lot to learn. This is something that I came to find out on my long journey from when I first started to where I am now. There are a lot of things I learned as a digital marketer and I will be giving you some digital marketing tips to help you in your journey too.
Get a mentor!
If there is one thing that is important in any field it’s undoubtedly a mentor. Mentors help you with guidance and in short catalyze your journey to achieving your goals and milestones. It’s always best to get advice from someone who has walked the path before you, avoiding all the mistakes they made when they were also new in the industry.
I can testify to the impact of mentorship also because it got me to where I am now in my career. Not only did I get digital marketing tips but I also got to learn social and entrepreneurial skills. This gives you a much-needed boost especially when networking.
Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living if you do it well I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way.
A mentor.
Never stop learning
Pursuing continued education in the field of digital marketing is essential for all professionals in this rapidly developing industry. Whether you are just starting out or already have years of experience, there is always something new to learn.
By completing a Digital Marketing professional diploma program like that offered by the Digital Marketing Institute (DMI) that I am currently pursuing, one can access invaluable resources and up-to-date information on the latest trends, best practices, and cutting-edge techniques in digital marketing.
With so many tips, tricks, and strategies offered by this diploma, you will be able to stay ahead of the competition and keep up with the ever-changing landscape of digital marketing.
Tip: Never stop learning – your future depends on it!

Trust your abilities
It’s easier to doubt your skills if you’re looking at other people in your field especially if you’re new. While that’s normal you also have to keep in mind that the reason why we learn is to apply our digital marketing skills somewhere.
Trusting yourself and your abilities not only makes the job easier but for those wishing to land a job it makes you hirable too. Employers love candidates who trust their own abilities. The first step to doing this, especially in the digital marketing field is showing off your work in form of a portfolio.
Remember in this modern era it’s the skills that get you hired instead of the diploma or degree hence why you should trust yourself. Your skills are like a product that you sell, if you don’t trust it yourself then no one will so it starts with you.
Tip: True confidence stems from a complete belief in your abilities, which is founded on a self-evolving competence that develops through time as a result of regular application and improvement.
Take constructive criticism
First and foremost, criticism provides us with a fresh perspective and allows us to see things we may have previously neglected or never considered. Another thing to always remember too is that no one is perfect.
If you want to quickly discover your flaws or how you can improve from where you currently are you should allow yourself to take criticism. Personally, I have evolved from listening to the views of other people including those not even in this line of work and you should too.
However, when taking criticism you should be able to separate between constructive and destructive criticism because the latter can leave you with low confidence and cause you not to trust your abilities.
One step at a time
At some point, we have all been overexcited and started learning all the advanced stuff before we even mastered the basics. Even I was not immune to this disease as I spent a lot of time just trying to soak in advanced knowledge while also learning the basics.
Tip: Ask yourself, “What can I accomplish today?” What is the smallest step I can take today?
Advanced knowledge is good but if you’re still a beginner know that you will eventually get there if you’re patient with yourself. Learning is not a competition with anyone and you should give yourself enough time to rest and reflect on what you have been learning before you progress any further.
Don’t get too comfortable
No matter if you land your dream job or get to achieve all your goals the last thing I would advise anyone is to get too comfortable. Being comfortable limits your chances of moving forward and you miss a lot of opportunities to learn. In some worst cases, you can even end up moving backwards.
Our digital marketing industry is competitive and is filled with individuals eager to learn new things which is what kept the field alive. We have seen some jobs that have gone extinct in the past because people got too comfortable with what they had at that time and never cared to progress.
In closing, your journey is not supposed to be easy or hard either and I hope these digital marketing tips can make your learning adventure smoother.
Yours,
Timothy Makaza
